Dr. Dawn Kaplan
Dr. Dawn Kaplan, founder of Visibly Better Eye Care, graduated from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1990, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Kaplan received a Doctor of Optometry as well as a second Bachelor in Visual Science at The Illinois College of Optometry in 1994.
Dr. Kaplan began her career working with LensCrafters, and while she learned a lot while working there, she quickly realized that what she really wanted was to own her own practice. During this time she was learning a good deal of optometry business, she was able to devote quite a bit of time to volunteer projects before embarking on the challenge of open her own practice.
Since November, 2000, Dr. Kaplan has been busy establishing two thriving optometry practices, located inside of Costco Warehouse stores. The first office was located in Oak Brook and the second in Lake Zurich. In November 2010, Dr. Kaplan opened a third location in Mettawa and decided to focus her attention on the Northern suburbs, so she handed over the Oak Brook practice to one of her Doctors (more on that in the "Visibly Better" section). In 2019, Dr. Kaplan celebrated her 25 year mark in practice. She looks forward to providing superior, innovative eye care to the community for many years to come.
Dr. Kaplan offers the full range of Optometry services to patients of all ages. Some of these services include: eye exams, State required school eye exams, treatment and management of Ocular diseases, contact lens fittings, and Lasik co-management. She is a contact lens expert who travels and educates other Optometrists on the finer points of contact lens fittings.
Dr. Kaplan is fluent in Spanish, has traveled extensively in South America and Asia, volunteering on 12 international eye care missions. She was the mission leader on three of these missions. In 1997 she was voted “Lion of the Year” by Lions Club International for her volunteer work. Since opening her own practice, Dr. Kaplan has had to switch her style of volunteering to serving on boards rather than actually going on the missions, but hopes to one day return to the mission trips.
Dr. Kaplan has a college-aged son whom she spends as much time as possible with. She also enjoys pilates, weight training, tennis, walking, live music and travel, both domestically and internationally. Her latest passion is pickleball.
